Did really well in the pool, but had an easy one really, Zeiss doesn’t seem to be a really strong B. I was worried about Fadi after watching him, but he didn’t seem to do as well vs. me. Alexander was good, but must have psyched himself out by the time we fenced, he ended up really well 3T Vandenberg-Rodes, Alexander University of California, Los Angeles Fencing Club SOCAL D06 got a C07.

Seed 2nd - which was really nice, and I might have done it once before, but not often, and I don’t think with such a large group.

DE bye for the 1st
2nd DE vs. (31) Navarro, Miguel – U (kid Navarro) 15 – 6 won handily, but tried to keep my energy and not overdo it. He has the same style as Navarro the elder but not the skill or size, yet.
3rd DE vs. (15) Robinson, Tim - C07, 15 – 12. I was doing ok early on, ahead by 1 I think, but flubbed it in the middle getting too close, fixed it after the break, but wasn’t able to get the lead back. Did several good counter-hit-retreat/parry-afters, and a couple of coupe hits, and a couple of long reach lunge hits, and some repost-hits, when I’d remember to repost. Distance worked best, he’s as long as me but doesn’t use it as well.

I finished 9th Hershberger, Aric Swashbucklers ORCST D07
didn’t even renew my 07, but there weren’t enough high ranks so it was only a B2, whatever that actually means.

by good happenstance my foil DE’s were done by the time by Epee pool started, so I wasn’t overwhelmed.

Margaret has been out for a while, and is a bit out of practice still. Her point control is off, there were at least 3 where she brushed me or laid the blade down and didn’t get the hit.
Burton was surprised by my win. His whirling beats just didn’t really stop my reach, I think he was playing around a bit and didn’t take it seriously until it was too late.
Silva broke a blade on me and was rather annoyed at me for winning, dunno if it was the blade or if she’s just that way. She’s good but I have the reach and at the end just went for doubles to finish it out, and managed to break her blade and then get a single anyway.

Seed 5th

I was doing really well in the pools both Foil & Epee

got a bye for my first DE
2nd DE vs. (37) Dewberry, David - U 11 - 6 lost, rather badly. I was so out of it that I didn't even notice that he was left handed until the drive home! it probably wouldn't have made any difference but yikes. Hit a few times with a long lunge and stretch, but he was quick. When I attacked to his inside he did an astounding twist-wrigle on one foot, arms and legs flying around, but managed to dodge everyone of them, and more often than not getting the counterattack. I’d swear I’ve fenced with him before, but can’t seem to find it in the archives, so maybe I’m insane. He certainly ended well
8th Dewberry, David Salle LaVerne SOCAL from a U to a C07.

I finished 17th Hershberger, Aric Swashbucklers ORCST D06
