DE
(11) McClain, Joseph - U 13 - 15
He had some good hits, and he guards his outside better then most lefties, but I was trying to take it a bit easy and save up some energy.
(3) Brewer, T.J. - U 13 - 15
same score much different bout, I was watching him earlier so knew his sweeping beat attack, but it still got me a few times, slightly ahead at first, then slightly behind but close, then managed to pull ahead at the end
(2) Gelnaw, William - C07 13 - 14
heh, I managed to hit him 3 or 4 times well, the rest were either luck, or his mistake. He has a great parry repost to my back over the shoulder, but not a flick, still maybe parry 1 would work, didn't think to try it. 12 seconds left and I couldn't find anything, better to try and find an opening than rush in and give it to him.

(5T) Merry, William - D08 13 - 15
fence off for 3rd. pretty even most the way, he was up for a little while, but mostly I was slightly ahead. He's probably better technically than me, he can see what's happening better, but I managed to get more tricks.

From my pool, I had the reach on him, and he didn't have the footwork to stay out of it.
(2T) Huang, Ken Yen - C07 15 - 12
Tough, but at the end he rushed and made mistakes - missed me a few times. When I was ahead it was fine, I could take my time, but when I was behind it was harder he's more defensive.
(1) Westrick, Stanley - C07 10 - 9
took it to time at 9/9 and I won priority. but he has a good rush I managed to get a double - which in priority is thrown out, but I didn't think I could be sure of another, so I tried to keep him off by attacking some, and he took it and got me. Huge strong beats kept knocking my blade to the floor getting me a floor hit and saving me from his attack at least 5 times. got a few with counters into his point in line - my reach is longer. got one nice one flick over to the top of his forearm. a couple of remises when he missed because I got out of distance, a couple of doubles. managed to evade many of his beats by keeping my blade up and my arm close in, which allowed me to attack but let him get too close sometimes. it was a tough one, I was tired, but not beat - could have been better, but have been much worse. I can't recall beating him before, but I can't recall getting him in a DE before either.

Apparently nationals will be in San Jose - so close I may try to go.

arrgh, I'm sore everywhere...
