vs. Kevin Lee (who I beat in my pool 5/1!) lost I wasn't doing the right stuff, it wasn't until the end of the bout I remembered what I should have been doing) moving much more, awaiting for something, not going in first. He got ahead at the beginning and I tried to push back, and shouldn't have.

I think that's the first time I've ever beaten Derek, I don't actually run up against him all that often. His previous bout vs. Brewer was full of flicks to the arm. I managed to get a few by going in as he pulled up to flick, and then some doubles, and was ahead. He had to push so I awaited his attack and jumped back, then when he pulled back after missing lunged, or fletched in. That worked rather well.
for the gold vs. Riviere, Paul B08 15/14 victory.
He has a good sweep to the outside and repost as I fletched by. got me 4 times like that, and after the 2nd I knew it wouldn't work, but once he opened up I just couldn't resist going for the fletche, I guess I'd practiced that a bit too much. I was ahead at first but he was climbing back and at the end I was up 14/12 when I did the last 2 fletches that he got me on, tying it up at 14/14, managed to get in at the end with something like a parry 4 sliding repost to his shoulder as his tip was past me.

Rather more pleased that I beat Derek, who's been around for a while now and I know is quite good, since I did it by fencing well. Riviere wouldn't have been so close if I hadn't been making so many mistakes,

Actually felt I could have taken Flora-Tostado, but wasn't fencing him, was tring to do what I wanted to. Still he ended up doing a lot better than I'd have guessed.

I started off poorly, it was 0/4 before I stopped doing simple direct attacks that I _know_ he can used for a repost. Grossman directing and didn't see my parries or beats - was giving them all to Alex, I should have figured that out sooner and stopped doing them that way. Once I noticed the way things were going I started doing those sweeping beat attacks (a' la' King) with the pulled back arm getting in and then hitting, which got me 2 or 3, but by that time it was too late. I think it could have been a _much_ closer match.

bah I was rushing things in the pool because I'd just finished foil. I think I could have done a bit better. Probabaly should have beat Riviere.

I wouldn't have been so mean, but he came out strong right at the begining and took the first point so I felt I actually had to try. Then once I started getting ahead he lost it and started having fits after each point acting a fit of a brat, so I didn't care.
2nd DE = (1) Illingworth, Adam - B08 14 - 15
Didn't realize he was the top seed. I knew he was good, and I don't think I've beaten him before, I should have tried smarter. He had some equipment problems that cost him 2 or 3 points. We were 8/8 going into the 2nd period, and 14/14 going into the 3rd. But I was up for most of the 2nd period and I'm annoyed I didn't play it a bit smarter, if I could have gotten one more double I would have taken it. Just a little slower may have done it. Ah well it was luck that got me as far as I did, too bad I couldn't finish it though.
